LAMY’s summer editions bring six colors to its pencil range

LAMY has given its mechanical-pencil range six summer colors across two familiar bodies: Safari Neon Yellow and Neon Pink, AL-star Disco and Rollerskate, and Safari Meteorite and Meteora. All six have pencil versions; this is more than a fountain-pen color story.

Itoya’s Japanese arrival notices were updated on June 30 for the neon Safari pair, July 16 for the AL-stars and August 7 for advance sales of the darker Safaris. Those dates document the retailer’s announcements, rather than proving the first sale anywhere in the world.

Two bodies, three different moods

Disco and Rollerskate bring a retro-futurist color scheme to the aluminum AL-star. Meteorite and Meteora take Safari in the opposite direction: black and dark violet, with a textured grip. Neon Yellow and Neon Pink leave little doubt about their intentions.

All six pencil colors

The pencil details are easy to lose among the matching pens. Itoya lists 0.5 mm leads for the neon Safaris, Disco and Meteora; LAMY’s own AL-star pencil page also includes Disco and Rollerskate. Itoya’s September listings price the four Safari colors at ¥3,740 and Disco at ¥5,720, including Japanese tax.

The AL-star’s ¥1,980 premium over those Safari listings is a comparison between two product platforms, not a surcharge for a particular neon or dark finish. The retail pattern is the useful news: LAMY is extending its seasonal palette across the pencil range as well as its ink pens.
