Mitsubishi Pencil is moving the formal location of its Yamagata factory on July 1, following a wider reorganization that has consolidated its operations in the area from four sites to two.
The June 29 notice says the factory’s principal production functions have already moved elsewhere. Administration and some remaining manufacturing processes will move onto the site of subsidiary Yamagata Mitsubishi Pencil Seiko’s Yamagata factory, in Kawanishi.
A smaller footprint is not a capacity figure
The company cites aging buildings, employee safety and more efficient operations. This is part of the global supply-chain work in its 2025–2027 management plan.
Four locations becoming two is a clear change in the operating footprint. It does not establish that production capacity, output or employment has halved; the announcement supplies no such figures.
The practical point for customers is reassuring: Mitsubishi Pencil says this formal relocation involves no change to manufacturing or shipping arrangements. Much of the production transfer preceded the address change.
The July address change is therefore a milestone in a reorganization already under way. The notice confirms where the remaining functions will sit, while leaving the resulting capacity and cost savings unquantified.
