Setsu opens a lottery for wood-barrel pencils from ¥5,000

Twelve numbered pencil lots cover seven wood choices in the October 15–18 sale. Setsu discloses outlet grading, random allocation and Japan-only delivery.

Setsu (工房 楔) has opened an October 15–18 lottery for wooden mechanical pencils through its official online shop. The Japanese maker lists 12 numbered pencil lots, priced from ¥5,000 to ¥11,000 including Japanese consumption tax, with results scheduled for October 19.

The important detail is how this stock is graded. Setsu describes these lottery offerings as outlet products: typically pieces with less distinctive figure than its event and dealer stock, or minor issues such as bark inclusions, offered at lower prices. It says higher-grade examples sometimes appear too. Buyers are asked to watch the maker’s video explaining the lots with the sound on before entering.

Choosing a lot is not choosing a particular pencil

The numbers identify listings, not individual units. Setsu’s lottery rules say a numbered lot can contain several pieces, and the individual pencil is assigned at random. Entering for the wood shown does not let a buyer select a particular barrel from that lot.

Applicants may enter for more than one lot. Anyone who wins more than one must choose a single item to buy and notify the shop through its contact form; the remaining wins are cancelled. Entry requires card payment; debit cards are also accepted. The shop asks people to enter only if they intend to purchase: ordinary changes-of-mind cancellations are not accepted.

For US readers, the limit is clear: these listings do not ship overseas. This is a Japanese domestic sale, with no US retail price or international ordering arrangement announced. The shop’s live listings remain the place to check the closing deadline and terms before entering.

Different woods, different decisions

The selection includes lace sheoak, karin burl, mahogany, black persimmon, figured sapele, wild cherry and zelkova. In the maker’s photographs, the differences are substantial: mottled red-brown burl, fine lines in the zelkova and broad dark bands across pale black-persimmon wood. This is a sale where the appearance of the individual barrel matters as much as the wood’s name.

All 12 pencil listings are presented as 0.5 mm. The silver-colored versions allow a requested change of lead diameter, subject to the maker’s listed options. The three gunmetal lots—10, 11 and 12—are limited to 0.5 mm. A fixed 0.5 mm tip is a separate purchase.

Two separate karin-burl lead-case lots complete the sale, at ¥3,000 and ¥2,000. They are storage accessories, additional to the 12 pencil lots.
